Personal consultancy is an integrative approach to individual work with clients that combines coaching with counselling and psychotherapy. The term consultancy refers to a meeting which is held to discuss something and to decide what should be done about it – this, in our view, describes one-to-one talking practices better than other commonly used terms in this field. Personal signifies that it is about focusing on the person and personal matters (that, of course, may include social and professional issues). The aim of personal consultancy is to help clients solve their internal conflicts or problems, and also to facilitate personal development and improvement. Therefore, it also focuses on clients’ strengths and enhancing their quality of life.

PERSONAL CONSULTANCY CPD
An introduction to Personal Consultancy
?105 (10% discount for AICTP Associate members)
Sat 25th Jan 2014 in central London (tbc)
This training introduces the Personal Consultancy model as a framework for integrating coaching and therapy. There will be an opportunity to explore the concepts – and your perceptions - of integration, eclecticism and differentiation as well as the current picture regarding one to one talking practices. We will demonstrate how the Personal Consultancy model can effectively combine elements from both disciplines – the depth perspective associated with therapy with the more practical, constructive changes associated with coaching. We believe that the Personal Consultancy model allows practitioners to meet the full spectrum of a client’s needs and therefore provide a balanced, rounded and complete service. This introductory training to the Personal Consultancy model will involve demonstration, case study discussion, presentation, and observed practice.
Debra Jinks is the founding Chair of the Association of Integrative Coach-Therapist Professionals (AICTP).
